Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not include an early access period for its campaign, a departure from what fans have come to expect in recent years. The game is set to launch globally on October 25, 2024, and unlike previous titles, early campaign play will not be available for those who pre-order the game.
In a statement shared with CharlieIntel, Activision explained that the various developers working on Black Ops 6 are focused on delivering a polished product by the set release date. This marks a shift from the recent trend, where previous installments, including last year’s Modern Warfare 3 campaign, offered players early access to the single-player mode a week before launch. This allowed fans to complete the story before diving into the highly anticipated Multiplayer and Zombies modes.
For Black Ops 6, however, Activision has decided to take a different approach. The statement reads:
“The team is fully focused on October 25th. We are excited about all the game has to offer across Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. This year, we made the decision to ensure the community gets to dig into any and all modes that they want at the same time, so we are back to one massive global launch moment on October 25th. As such, there is no Early Access beat this year for Black Ops 6, just the countdown to launch.”
The decision to hold back on early campaign access may also be influenced by Black Ops 6’s availability on Xbox Game Pass from day one, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in a $69 billion deal. With Black Ops 6 being the first major Call of Duty game to launch directly on Game Pass, it seems Activision is aiming for a singular, highly anticipated global release event.
The game has already wrapped up its Beta Weekend 2, with Activision expected to reveal adjustments and improvements before the official launch. Black Ops 6 will introduce several new features, including the innovative Body Shield and Omnimovement mechanics, alongside the return of familiar elements from 2020’s Black Ops Cold War.
Fans will have to wait until October 25th to experience all that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has to offer, but with the simultaneous release of Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies, players are sure to have plenty to dive into once the game finally drops. For those eager to get their hands on the game, Black Ops 6 is available for pre-order now, and players subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will be able to jump in on launch day.
