This week at San Diego Comic-Con, we received our first look at Kitana in the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel, thanks to game creator Ed Boon.
Adeline Rudolph will be portraying the beautiful and deadly assassin Kitana in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II movie. The image was shared by Boon via X on Thursday. The photo doesn’t show her face, but we do get to see her iconic steel fan, which is her primary weapon throughout the series.
During the Mortal Kombat panel, Boon revealed that he had seen the unfinished cut of Mortal Kombat II and joked that he broke into producer Tom Garner’s phone, “found this image from the film, and [sent] it to my phone.” This was a reference to the many Mortal Kombat leaks and datamined information that often ends up on the internet before the official release of characters or new content. Boon quipped, “I can leak stuff too.”
Attendees of the Mortal Kombat panel at SDCC ’24 got an early look at the image before it was officially released to the media. The photo was only on screen for a short time, so most only got a glimpse of it.
Kitana is making her highly anticipated return to the silver screen in the newest adaptation of the Mortal Kombat film series, which is a fitting homage to her entry into the series in Mortal Kombat II back in 1993. It seems like all the stars are aligning for the deadly assassin.
Along with Rudolph, who is playing Kitana in the sequel, other actors joining the cast include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Khan, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. Most of the original cast from the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie will be returning as well.
Simon McQuoid will also be returning to direct Mortal Kombat II, which is set for release on October 24, 2025.
